This course is open to all students regardless of previous experience or talent. Serving as the foundation for the Academy choral program, it is an introductory musicianship course covering the basis of reading music, music vocabulary, vocal production, choral diction, part singing, and to a lesser degree, dicriminating listening to choral music. The student's attendance and participation at hte Music Department concerts during the school year is required.

This course is open to all students with previous instrumental experience. In serving as the foundation for the Academy band program, it is designed to build upon basic musicianship skills. The group performs a wide repertoire and the student's attendance and participation of the music concerts during the year is required.

The Chorale is a select mixed chorus for the uperclassmen who have displayed a talent for and an interest in choral music. A large variety of choral music will be introduced. A student selected for membership in the Chorale will be expected to have a working knowledge of the music concepts introduced in Mixed Chorus and/or Glee Club. Singers are expected to be enrolled in Chorale for the entire year. The student's attendance and participation of the music concerts during the school year is required. Students are expected to enroll for the entire year.

The Symphonic Band is a select ensemble open to any instrumental students who have displayed a talent for, and an interest in instrumental music. The concepts and skills begun in Concert Band are continued and developed. The class will give the student an opportunity to learn instrumental music of a wide range of styles and time periods. The student's attendance and participation at the music concerts is required. Students are expected to enroll for the entire year.

The Academy ensemble focuses on the various styles of Jazz including but not limited to Funk, Swing, Rock, Latin, and Blues. The Jazz Bank participates in music concerts and performs periodically for the general public and civic organizations throughout the school year.
Jazz band is an auditioned group. Auditions are held in the fall.

This is a small vocal ensemble which is considered to be the premier vocal performing group of the Academy. Participation is by audition only. Auditions are held in the Spring. Many additional festivals and concerts are schedulled. Students who participate in the Hill Singers will be required to do much individual work on their own outside the regularly scheduled rehearsal times.

The Woodstock Academy Basketball Pep Band is a group that is open to all band members regardless of ability level. The group performs at home basketball games as well as school-wide pep rallies. Rehearsals for this ensemble take place two hours before each game. The pep band experience promises tons of fun, great music, face painting, and huge amount of music department pride!
Pre: Students must be a member of the Symphonic or Concert Band.

This audition-based classical string ensemble is open to all Woodstock Academy students who have playing experience on violin, viola, cello, string bass and piano. This chamber ensemble meets once per week after school for the entire school year. Auditions for this new ensemble take place in the fall of each school year.
This international music honor society recognizes high school students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and inspire students to excel at music and grow as leaders. Students in grades 10-12 who are in full year performing ensemble are eligible to apply.
Auditions for this festival takes place in December with the concert festival occurring in March of the same school year. With guidance from private teachers and/or ensemble directors, students choose and prepare a piece of literature from the repertoire list posted online at NEMFA.org. There is no sight reading or scales for this festival, however, students are encouraged to perform repertoire with piano accompaniment.
This is not required but certainly recommended for Band and Choir students! More information will be give at our annual parent meeting in September. Trip contracts and deposits will be due soon after this meeting.
Any WA student is eligible to audition or may sign up to participate in our tech, stage or lobby crew!
Advanced musicians enrolled in full year instrumental ensembles may be recommended by their director for The American School Band Director Association's 1-day honor band festival. If accepted, students will spend a full day rehearsing with guest conductors and top musicians from schools around CT, culminating in an evening performance.
